Food and Christian Education for Children in Khartoum
Among Sudan's four million internally displaced people are many vulnerable children. Twenty-seven percent suffer from acute malnutrition. As for education, there are too few teachers, overcrowded classrooms and few school supplies.
Local Christians oversee two primary schools in Khartoum, providing free food and Christian education for up to 450 war-effected children as well as local children who cannot afford to attend Islamic state schools. For most, the school provides their only meal each day, saving the children from having to beg on the streets.
Receiving an education provides a sense of normalcy amid the chaos of displacement and conflict, and gives families hope for a better future.
Education for one war-affected child for one school year: $98
Daily meals for one at-risk child for one school year: $22
