Clean Water for Villagers in Northern Mali

Access to pure drinking water is the single most expressed need of Malian rural villagers. Many are forced to collect water from shallow wells or watering holes used by animals. Even these contaminated options may dry up during the hot season, forcing people and animals to share fewer water sources.

Studies show that a community's health improves with an improved water supply; in some instances, reducing diarrhea by as much as 26%. In a rural village, one newly drilled well equipped with a pump will improve the health of 700 villagers and reduce the workload of 200 women who normally spend their days collecting water.

Drilling wells and providing pumps in villages makes clean water accessible to all; a vital stepping stone toward improved quality of life for men, women and children in Mali, Africa.
