Malian Villagers Empowered to Fight Poverty
Mali is home to some of the world's poorest, weighed down by political turmoil, poverty, food shortages and illiteracy. Rural villages in particular are plagued by malnutrition along with high maternal, infant and child mortality rates.
With your help, an entire village can fight poverty and the tragedy that often accompanies it. The Mali Village Project works with one village at a time to install a well and a grinding mill; build and stock a health clinic; and construct an elementary school.
Per village, an average of 700 villagers will benefit from improved food supplies, clean water and healthcare. In each community, as many as 200 children will be able to attend school.
As their physical needs are met, the villagers are more trusting of the Christian workers and more open to learning about Jesus.
Well and water supply system: $12,080
Construction of village clinic: $18,980
Installation of one grinding mill: $13,160
Construction of three-room elementary school: $24,000
Salaries for a nurse, a midwife, a school administrator, and six teachers for one year: $12,650
With adequate funding, Sisters in Service will replicate this whole-village approach across Mali.
